Time Sink Weekly Review #1
Recap: This week in time sink....
Struglled a lot with schedule specially the morning session. Need a strict lights out time and wake up time.
I read a lot, wrote a lot of notes in books and on local system but those aren't converted to short blogs. Should push them out to my personal blog instead of reading one more topic with notes on it.
Struggled to find a balance of DSA(data structure and algorithm) - Devlopment Work - System Design - Writing.
Messed up schedule made exercise and mediation second class citizen. Which generally got ignored and hampered productivity later in the week.
Weekly goals wern't completed(3.5/6) as things got added to them and priority moved on finishing them. Keeping relalistic goals with some space to have ad-hoc changes would help next week.
Interview day messed up the day schedule till the interview was done. Giving more interviews and mock interviews would help settle down that nervousness.
Focus shifted to the new shiny i.e Go more than improving the old craft with DSA/Web Dev with Python. Need to prioritise those over anything and one hour daily for Go is more than enough.
DSA was the hardest part to focus on and was the hardest one to convince myself to sit and work through the material& problems. Need to realistic goal on that two - three topics are good for a week. This time had 6 and could only finish 2.
What did go right this week ?
Did not skip a day to push out log entry. A good achievement for me since I had done journaling on and off countless time and max I have done is a couple of days.
Did not sugar coat any thing in the log entry. Being anonymous is helping in this and since it's online I can send updates to all the right people too.
Giving an interview really helped boost the confidence. Did average in it but good feedback loop on what is going right and where can I improve. I should give more to remove those interview gitters and help with imposter syndrome.
Having weekly goals did help in not jumping from one thing to another.
Reaching out to friends. I have been in a cocoon since January about my current situation but talking friends helped to not overthink and focus more on 'why' I took the steps.
Uninstalled all the useless time consuimg apps that were taking literally hours of my time. Fuck instagram reels and youtube shorts. hahahaha!
Pairing an hour a day daily with a friend to learn Go.
What did not go right this week ?
Didn't exercise and meditate daily.
Need to be more focused on sessions and on following weekly goals.
The new shiny syndrome took over gave Go more time than it actually needed.
Read time > Coding time. With my experince it should be the same since I am working on polishing the craft not learning something completly new. Should bluid more stuff and write tests more.
Schedule! My Achilles' heel.
tl;dr: Had a semi productive week after ages where I actually have writing logs to see what went right and what went wrong. Should iteratively work on what went wrong. Most importanly should not forget why I am doing this over that shitfest of a job. Hopefully things would fall into places.
